Good morning, everyone. Today we will be discussing what the constitution is.
THE PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION
▪A constitution is defined as the fundamentallaw of a nation or state.▪It establishes the character and basicprinciples of the government.
The United Kingdom is an example of an uncodified constitution. We also have the Constitution of India, which is the longest written constitution, and the Constitution of Monaco, which is the shortest.
For our group, we will talk about the purpose of a constitution and the writing of it.So the purpose of constitution are the following:❑ It prescribes the framework of the system or the kind of governmentthat will exist in the state.❑ It creates the different departments and specifies their respectivefunctions and duties.❑ It is the source of the sovereign powers of a government byestablishing the fixed, first or basic principles on which thegovernment is founded.❑ It promotes public welfare, which involves the safety, prosperity, health, and happiness of the people.
THE PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION
So the writing of constitution must be: ❑ written by a constitutional convention ❑ the draft written constitution must be submitted to plebiscite for ratification ❑ the results must be considered and followed by the government Keep in mind that this is not the same as a referendum, in which a piece of legislation enacted by a legislative body is presented to the public for a vote. However, the results may be ignored by the state.
