The monarchs, king Louis and queen Marie Antoinette, had a lot of money and were living lavish lives along with the 1st and 2nd estate, but the 3rd estate were poor and starving they also had almost no say in votes

some people of the 3rd estate meet at a tennis court and they decide to form their own govt. called the national assembly and say that all men have a basic rights. They also showed their strength by raiding Bastille and started the reign of terror and eventually killed the king.
monarchy was abolished and Napoleon became the dictator of France . The Napoleonic Code was made and peoples wishes were known to the govt. , but the govt. was left unstable for 100 years. this also led to the Haitian revolution

The French colony of Saint Domingue was built off of the export of sugar cane and the slaves on the plantation faced harsh conditions as there were ants that would bite them and the heat was intense. After news had reached about the French revolution the slaves had decided to fight back
Haitian motive
under the guidance of Toussaint L'Ouvarture the slaves were doing good with his strategies and they were very violent. At first they allied themselves with the Spaniards, but then allied with the French when they had abolished slavery. When Napolean wanted to reinstate slavery Toussaint made his own constitution and declared himself as governor for life. Later on He was taken by French forces and put in prison, but the former people still fought with Dessalines and gained freedom.
Haitian method
The Haitians were free but the country faced economical isolation as people didn't want the idea of the revolution to spread to their slaves and they were also ruled by dictators.
