- Mia is a kind-hearted person who likes to play cello and she has a boyfriend named Adam who is in a rock band.
- "I run back toward the ditch where I came from and I see a hand sticking out. "Teddy! I'm right here!" I call. "Reach up. I'll pull you out." But when I get close, I see the metal glint of a silver bracelet with my tiny cello and guitar charms" (15)
- She has to make the most difficult decision. Whether to stay with her boyfriend and her brother or ascend to heaven with her mom and dad.
- "Gramps sees me and he strides across the floor to the bed. "Hello, duck," he says. He hasn't called me that in ages, not since I was younger than Teddy." (67)
- To be grateful for what you have before it is not there anymore.

- The book had suspense because she didn't know if it was her hanging off the gully or her brother.
- The Book has a pretty happy mood in it because in the book it says that Mia never saw Gran and Gramps hold hands and how Gramps called her duck from when she was little.
