This is my opportunity to ask the cell who controls the cell cycle
External and Internal regulators who are also proteins control the cell cycle. They respond to signals.
A Growth factor is an external regulator that responds to signals outside the cell such as injuries. Cyclins are internal regulators that manage the pace of the cell cycle or division process.
Ok so now we know who controls the cell cycle, how cells are created, but how do cells die?
This is a secret that I'll let you in on. Cells sometimes die accidentally like in injuries, but sometimes cells purposely die through a process called apoptosis. We basically self destruct to prevent cancer cells from forming. I am scheduled to destruct next week.
OMG we will miss you, but what is cancer?
Cancer cells form after there is damage in the cell's DNA or genetic material.
That's a lot of information to comprehend before my test. Let me write it down.
Cancer is uncontrolled cell growth. This is when the proteins no longer have control over the cell cycle. The cancer cells grow and divide to make more of them. It's as if they are working against us. When lots of cancer cells are created a tumor is formed. Cancer can be treated with chemotherapy or radiation if the cancer cells didn't spread through the whole body. If its in its latest stages then it will be hard to cure.
I'm not feeling well maybe its time to self destruct?!
