  • Causes
  • During the Spanish American War there were several causes to the war and some of them were Cuban who were struggling while seeking for independence with the support of the United States and there was a huge spread of United States sympathy for the Cubans seeking independence. An unexpected sinking in Haven Harbor of the USS Maine occurred on February 15,1898. This act soon led to the United States declaring war against Spain. The United States won victory but the war was very short with the U.S. economy being bigger, having a better government and military power.

  • Effects
  • During the Spanish American War there were several effects that were due from the causes of the Spanish American War. Due to the sinking in Haven Harbor of the USS Maine it soon enough had an effect by the United States and Spain fighting against one another. Later on, since Spain had lost it had an effect on them and they mainly started to focus on culture, and having an improvement in agriculture,industries and transportation. The United States won and went away as a world power and having control of Cuba,Puerto Rico,Philippines and Guam. After a long war the United States withdrew their troops and had an effect by making Cuba become a republic.
