  • Excellent! Scientist begin making an observation
  • Plants don't get tired like people do. We should investigate
  • Hey! why dose our class plant look tired?
  • Maybe its tired!
  • Slide: 2
  • Exactly. Scientist use questions to figure out what they want to investigate
  • I have a question! Dose the amount of sunlight a plant gets affect how grows?
  • That's a great scientific question!
  • Slide: 3
  • Correct! You are predicting what you think will happen
  • I have a hypothesis! I think the plant that gets more sunlight will grow taller
  • A hypothesis is a testable prediction, right?
  • Slide: 4
  • Great! You are changing one variable so you can see what effect sunlight has.
  • We'll have two plants that are the same type and give them the same amount of water.
  • Let's test it!
  • But Plant A gets plenty of sunlight, while Plant B gets very little.
  • Slide: 5
  • Scientists collect data so they can see what happened during the experiment.
  • Plant A is 12 centimeters tall.
  • Time to measure!
  • Plant B is 7 centimeters tall.
  • Let's record the measurements every few days.
  • Slide: 6
  • (Ms.G) Excellent! Remember, scientist don't have to be correct every time. If a hypothesis is not supported, scientists use the results to learn something new
  • Plant A
  • Plant B
  • (Ethan) Our hypothesisWas supported by our results!
  • 7cm
  • 12cm
  • -Plant A grew more than Plant B
  • (Koris) Our conclusion is that the amount of sunlight affected the plant's growth
  • Slide: 7
  • Scientist are rarely finished
  • I have another question! Dose the amount of soil affect how fast the plant grows?
  • So, are we finished?
  • Another Experiment
