This was my first tryouts ever. I was trying out to be on a better team for my skill level. There was an A, B, and C team. If you didn’t make it on one of those, you were cut.
Lately I’ve been in a pretty bad slump. A low point in my softball career, some would say. All growing up I was the kid that could hit doubles, triples, or even home-runs every at bat. All of a sudden, I fell into a miserable slump where I get out every time. Throughout all of these teams I’ve been on, every single coach has changed something about my stance. So I’ve never just stuck to one.
Last year was the first time I’ve ever tried out for a club team. There were over 40 kids coming from all over the area wanting to play with this team. One friend of mine I knew before tryouts came. Ava Ryan. We played on the highschool team together. It was two days of tryouts, and I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to make a team because everyone else was so good at so many different things. All I really knew how to play was catcher.
One day at our weekly game, I wasn’t hitting well off of my bat. I told my coach, Jeff, this and he let me try out his “special” bat. Lucky enough, my turn up to hit, I hit a triple! He told me the first time anyone used this bat they hit a home-run. At the end of the year he gifted this bat to me, for good luck.
This is where I met Jeff Dierberger. My highschool coach. He taught me a lot of things in my first year of high school softball. He taught me to always pay attention even when coaches aren’t speaking to you. He taught me to always be 15 minutes early than the time coaches ask us to be at the fields. And lastly he taught me to always do what I would do in a game.
I made all the teams I tried out for and more! Dynamite was my first choice before I even starting trying out. A very family friendly team. I chose to be on the Minnesota Dynamite team, and as my coach’s, John Sireno and Chris Brown.
In 7th grade I tried out for the high school softball team which was very challenging. I was one of the youngest kids there while being at a lower level than the rest of the high schoolers. I made the freshman team, playing catcher every game
I made the A team while playing catcher every game. My coach Mike Mondelli taught me how to speak up, call pitches, and be a better friend, player, and teammate.
