  • The USSR is facing many internal problems the economy was suffering, the politicalelite are dying out and corruption is eating away society

  • The Soviet union need reforming and modernizing, as the USSR is facing problems I propose solutions.
  • Perestroikaallowed for some elementsof free enterprise in the soviet economy. Glasnostwhich allowed for the opening of the politicalprocess and the granting of more freedom. This metthat the Soviet Union would no longer come to the aid of communist regimes in E. Europe

  • Foreign trade was extremelylimited and the agriculturalindustry stifled because farmers didn'thave control over what they plant and charge for what they harvest.

  • With the fall of the SovietUnion, political alliances changed and economic interactions grew this improved relationshipswith the west. In January1990 the first Mac Donald'sopened in Russia, this marked the new beginning after the end of the cold war.
  • The people in eastern Europe were hoping that the policies would be introduced to their homelands as well. They craved change from the freedoms granted by perestroika and glasnost.
  • Glasnost andPerestroikareformed policy reduced censor ship people could now speak out againstthe government, small businesses were allowed to open and an increased the freedom of the press. Russian culture began to bloom because of an increase of expression freedom.
