  • Do you know why the skeletal muscle contracts? How the skeletal muscle contraction occurs? What fibers surrounds the skeletal muscle? And how the skeletal muscle is grouped?
  • Well I know for a fact that the skeletal muscle contracts due to movement or our skeleton or skin. The contraction occurs when there is a signal being carried by our neurons and the neurons innervate the skeletal muscle fiber. Endomysium surrounds our skeletal muscle and the skeletal muscle is grouped in bundles called fascicles.
  • Isn't it fascinating how the connective tissues that attach the bone to the muscle which are called tendons are formed from the endomysium? And how elongated cells are skeletal muscle tissues called muscle fibers? How the sarcoplasmic reticulum is the endoplasmic reticulum? And how the T tubules are in the sarcolemma?
  • Yes, indeed it is all very fascinating! But did you also know that the two terminal cisternae with a T tubule between them are called a triad? And that the myofibrils are bundled into thick and thin filaments? And that sarcomers are a chain of myofibrils?
  • I can go on and on about the skeletal muscle and how it works! Such as how sarcomeres are the smallest structural and contractile unit of a muscle myofibril, and how the thin filaments have actin, tropomyosin, and troponin molecules. Lastly how the molecules of the actin make up most of the thin filament and have binding sites for the myosin.
  • Yes, same here I can go on talking about the whole skeletal muscle structure. Such as how the thin filament is made up of myosin molecules, how the myosin molecules form the filament, and how the myosin head and the actin molecule have a temporary attachment called a cross-bridge.
