- The baseball season has started and the boys are out on the field.

- I was up at bat. I could see Shago smile. He had a curve that could break a back.
- Falling action
- Hey Shago, can you pitch?
- About 3 months in we could see a change in the way Shago pitched. He would squint at the plate for a long time. It would come fast and we learned that if we wait we would get walked.
- Conclusion
- Well , aren't you going to bat them?
- We can't Shago
- By spring it was clear. His eyes were red and his pitching was hard with curves that would not find the plate. By September he was a terrible pitcher. That winter his mom bought him glasses. He would only wear them walking home.
- That summer Shago would never pitch he would go outfield, where the ball hardly ever came.

- A while after Shago quit playing he met us at the candy store like he always did. He had baseballs in his hand. He asked us if we are going to bat them...we couldn't bear to tell him. It was night.
