Storyboard Description
The "Alt-Right", or right leaning political movement often associated with fringe ideologies, tends to recruit it's members from the internet. Many vulnerable youth experience a slow, subtle indoctrination. Instead of demonizing these kids, it's important to understand where they came from and that they're not evil for having been exposed to controversy.
Storyboard Text
- Samuel is a seventeen year old boy living in a rural American town. Because his small family isn't involved in organized religion, his extended family lives far away, and he doesn't participate in sports or other types of community, he experiences a low level of social solidarity. Like many other teens, he often feels isolated and misunderstood.
- While Samuel's peers all seem to have an easy time making friends, Samuel doesn't have much of a social network at all. He does have an interest in politics and history, which occupies him at school.
- It must have been interesting to have witnessed The Confederacy
- Recently, Samuel has been spending a lot of his time in an online chatroom that he found in a history forum. It's filled with boys just like him, and together they discuss lots of fascinating sociological, historical and political subjects. He fits in well, is learning a lot, and has made many friends. His social solidarity has increased, and he is much happier.

- Sometimes, the boys say really offensive things. Samuel knows they shouldn't be saying them, but he's really curious about their counterculture and frankly, thinks they're funny. They have extensive theories about contemporary social structures, and Samuel hears them out. As a new member of the community, he's going through the initiation rite of "redpilling".

- Samuel is now beginning to notice concepts that his online community pointed out to him, and realizes that these absurd theories may have some merit after all. He has been effectively resocialized, and feels even more isolated from his peers.

- Although Samuel has found friends, he feels more isolated than ever in the real world. He'll start to blame more and more of his problems on the ideologies his community has taught him, and demonize the people he knows. His peers will only consider him more of an outcast, and one day he may even take to violence to feel heard. Society will demonize him back, and he will have a very difficult time making his way in the world.
