  •      In his story "Harrison Bergeron," Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that human nature needs to compete. This competition comes from any characteristics or physical attributes that differ among people. He demonstrates that through equality no one is truly equal, this is because when someone is considered more of something than others they are handicapped more. In being handicapped more they are no equal to everyone else, because they have to hide or be harmed more, because they were born more gifted than others. This society that Vonnegut creates shows people who have just given up, if they are unique in any way. Harrison on the other hand is someone who is breaking their social norms and expressing his uniqueness, and is consequently punished for it.
