Storyboard Text

  • Development of the Plantation System
  • The more slaves, the more crops, the more crops, the more $$. That simple. My slaves are picking tobacco, cotton, and sugarcane constantly, in order to make me some profit.
  • The Growth of the Transatlantic Slave Trade
  • This slave will make me so much money! Like they say, "hard work pays off."
  • There are so many people on here. What's going to happen to me?!? Am I gonna be a slave?
  • Spread of Slavery
  • Why is he doing this to me! If he wants money he should work for it, not me. Why are they doing this to people, I'm human too.
  • Shut up you slave, and get to work! The crops you are picking are important! We need slaves like you to do the hard work so we can get our money.
  • The rich soil and long growing seasons in plantations allowed for the growth of cash crops such as tobacco, cotton, rice, indigo, and sugarcane. The plantation owner had slaves doing the intense labor and would use the crops collected as a profit. The main house (in the middle) was the residence of the owner, and surrounding him was his plantation.
  • The Slave trade or Triangular trade was due to the growth of profits from cash crops Europe and a large market for manufactured goods. The middle passage was between part of the trade routes. Plantation owners/busniessmen where pleased with the exchange, for they would receive slaves to do the hard labor which would lead to their own profit and benefit.
  • The demand for cash crops created by the transatlantic slave trade resulted in the need for cheap labor. They decided upon slave labor, which was more economically efficient for plantation owners. Slaves constantly worked, yet were never paid or rewarded. They were discriminated, due to the color of their skin, and were treated as items not human beings.
