“Sports for Special needs” That’s what we like to call the event where it is exclusive to peers with down syndrome. We took inspiration from the “Special olympics” made possible by Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
This is because the average height of an adult with down syndrome is 5 feet and 2 inches, and if a player with a height of 6 feet and 2 inches goes against them, they may not stand a chance. Thus, maintaining the game’s fairness is a must.
We have chosen basketball to become a primary sport due to its effective use of camaraderie. It is also easy to learn and play. For instance, With the use of force they can jump into the air and shoot the ball thus, it serves as projectile motion.
Our team developed approaches and strategies such as creating an online page for people with down syndrome to have a platform where they can freely express themselves. It is mentioned that they are troubled with self-expression. In response to that we kept in mind their daily struggles as we think of ways on how to help them.
With social support and acknowledgement, many people with Down syndrome can live happily and achieve their dreams leading to productive lives.
