- The rumble had finally come around. The tension was stirring. Who was going to win, was anyone going to get killed? Soon though the Greasers had scared off the Socs and returned home.
- I'll take on anyone
- Hello, Paul
- Never could keep that black hair ... that's what you get for tryin' to help people, you little punk, that's what you get.
- Johnny?
- During the rumble though, Johnny's third degree burns got worse and his broken back didn't help. Learning this information, Pony and Dally rushed to the hospital to see Johnny. But they had little time.
- Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.....
- I love living with Darry
- A few weeks later anyone present at the night that Johnny killed Bob was to be at a hearing. The judge asked people many questions about that night, but he didn't ask Pony any about Johnny.
- How do you like living with your brother?
- Ponyboy was failing his language arts class so his teacher gave him an idea on what to do to bring his grade up.
- Ponyboy I'd like to talk to you about your grades
- Yes sir
- Your failing but I'll pass you with a C if you write a good semester theme.
- That idea had just been the bejining of of the idea for the book: The Outsiders.
- When I stepped out into the the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.
