- Sometimes, I went straight home to finish my works and sometime my father want me to come with him to judge de valle to play chess.
- (Exposition) - the story begins with Alfredo looking out the window, followed by Don Julian and Carmen establishing the stage and discussing Alfredo and Esperanza's wedding.

- (Inciting Incident) - The conflict of the story begins when Alfredo and Julia met while Don Julian and Judge were playing chess and they were both bored with it and began to have an interest in knowing Julia when he was engaged to Esperanza.
- Falling Action

- (Rising action) - When Esperanza questions Alfredo about why he's been avoiding her for the past few days, she appears sad but still believes what Alfredo says.

- (Climax) - this is the point at which Alfredo begins to develop affection for Julia and becomes perplexed about what he will do about his dilemma in which he is in love with Julia yet wishes to marry Esperanza.

- (Falling action) - when Alfredo and Esperanza are talking about Calixta and it turns out that Alfredo fully understands why Calixta does that and is angry about it, and Esperanza opens up about what she hears between Julia and Alfredo, and Esperanza says that tell her if Alfredo no longer loves her.

- (Denouement) - After they've finished talking to one other and Alfredo has had all of his questions addressed, he realizes that he loves Esperanza more and simply wants closure with Julia.
- It's been 8 years and I'm still thinking about Julia and knowing why when I talk to her. I found peace of mind immediately after speaking with her, so all I've wanted from her in the last few years is closure.
