- Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and tanning beds is classified as a human carcinogen by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the World Health Organization.
- Scientists have found that overexposure to UV radiation can suppress the functioning of the body's immune system and the skin's natural defenses. For example, the skin normally defends itself against foreign invaders such as cancers and infections. But overexposure to UV radiation can weaken the immune system, reducing the skin's ability to protect itself against these invaders.
- It is increasingly necessary to protect yourself from UV rays and their effects. Workers must wear glasses, hats, and special work clothing. All people must use sunscreen with a minimum Factor of 30 half an hour before exposure.
