- He was our only boy!
- I'm sorry, Herbert is dead. Here's some money.
- The White family awaits their guest, Sgt. Major Morris. Morris has spent many years in India with Fakirs and other odd people.
- CLIMAX
- It's Herbert, my boy!
- Sgt. Morris has brought to the White home the monkey's paw. He explains that if wished upon, you'll receive your wish... with a great consequence. Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds.
- FALLING ACTION
- You are afraid of your own son!
- A messenger from Maw and Meggin's brings the bad news that Herbert has been caught in the machinery at work. Herbert is dead, but not in any pain. 200 pounds for your loss should do it.
- RESOLUTION
- There is nobody here. Let's go in.
- Wishing Herbert alive again, and hearing knocking, Mrs. White is about to undo the latch that will let their mangled, zombie son in; Mr. White thinks fast and makes his last wish... To send Herbert back to his gravesite.
- I wish for my son to go back to his grave!
- The knocking stops at the door. Mrs. White is upset that she will never see her son, Herbert, again. Mr. White knows he did the right thing by wishing him back to his place of rest.
- That is NOT our son!
- Mr. and Mrs. White take a look outside and do not see Herbert. There is a rush of wind and the gate swings, but there is no sign of their son.
