The premise of The Vindico Wesley King is about a group of villains, the Vindico, who are at war with the League of Heroes, want a group of young successors. So, they kidnapped five teenagers as their mentees and trained them.
Settings
The protagonists are five teenagers. These teenagers are the mentees of the antagonists. The teenagers are Emily Lau, Lana Hunter, Hayden Matthew, Sam Bennet, and James Renwick.
Theme
The antagonist, known as the Vindico, are a group of villains. The members include, the Torturer, a bulky and giant man, Rono, an intelligent and stealthy man, Avaria, a fast and strong woman, Leni, a hot-headed telepath and Sliver another telepath. The Baron is the leader of group and also the founder of League of Heroes, he informs the Vindico about the League of Heroes.
Plot
“If you turn a bunch of kids into supervillains, you can’t expect them to follow the rules.” (156)
The setting that is most used in the book is the Vindico Mansion. It is described as more of a castle with walls to defend it and also has a crimson and gold interior. The book also feature the houses of the teenagers, Cambilsford High School, two interiors of jets, and the base of League of Heroes.
The main theme of the story is good versus evil. The good are the League of Heroes and the evil are the Vindico. This became clear as the Baron said "they’ll soon find out that it’s far more fun to be a villain.“(190).
The plot is unpredictable and unique but unrealistic. Unlike many superhero books, the story features teenagers that get exposed to the villains' perspectives and still chose the good guys even after the villains try to deceive them. The teenagers also, get strong very fast which allowed them to betray their mentors in order to be free from their mansion. This made the story unpredictable and interesting.
