- New urbanism seeks to encourage local community development and sustainable growth in urban areas. An example of new urbanism is Harbor town in Memphis Tennessee. Harbor Town is a new urbanist-style neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee.
- Rural
- A ring of land maintained as parks, agriculture, or other types of open space to limit the sprawl of an urban area. An example of green belt is Golden Gate Park, located in San Francisco, California, United States, is a large urban park consisting of 1,017 acres of public grounds.
- Gentrifaction
- Central Business District is where a large amount of businesses are located. An example of the a CBD is Midtown Manhattan.Midtown Manhattan is home to iconic attractions like Times Square and the Museum of Modern Art, and architectural landmarks including the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, the Flatiron Building, and the Empire State Building.
- Suburb
- A rural area is Sparsely settled places away from the influence of large cities. Live in villages, hamlets on farms, or in other isolated houses. They typically have an agricultural character.An example of a rural area is Oak Glen it is located the Little San Bernardino Mountains in San Bernardino County, California it has an area of 15.12 miles and a population of 307 in the 2020 census.
- Gentrification is the process where middle and upper-class individuals are attracted to revitalized inner cities. New York City is a common example of gentrification, especially when it comes to discussions about rising rents and low-income residents moving out.
- Residential communities, located outside of city centers, that are usually relatively homogeneous in terms of population. An example of a suburb is the city of Santa monica.Santa Monica is a coastal city west of downtown Los Angeles witha population of 91,600.
