Storyboard Text

  • Wow! There are so many words, how can I ever understand them all! Can you help me?
  • Sure! To start, the root "re" means, to do again. For example, the word "retract" means to pull.
  • What about the word captive?
  • The word captive consists of the root "cap" and the suffix "tive." The root word means take, so the suffix makes the word mean taken.
  • Ah, I see we have much work ahead of us. A prefixes and suffixes modify the root, which gives us our main meaning. A prefix comes before, a suffix after. To understand better, let's go on a field trip. Into the teleporter machine!
  • Wait! What do root words do compared to Prefixes and suffixes?!
  • WHOA, THIS IS COOL! I HATE CASTLES! WHY ARE WE SO FAR AWAY
  • Ah, but we are here for a reason other than to suit your adventurus spirit. We need to teach you, using a simple word: succeed. Using only the root ceed and prefix suc, it creates a word meaning, to win.
  • To learn about another word: fail. This is a classic example of a root standing on its own. It originally meant in crude latin totrip or fall, but as converted to english ove time it cam to mean what i does today. And what you get when you don't study for s test!
  • Why are we here?
  • F
  • That sentence is a perfect segue into our next couple words. Strain uses the root strain to mean to try hard/filter something. Volume uses Root vol and suffix ume to make the meaning the nouse something is at. And that's all the time we have, time togo back to Rome.
  • Why are we HERE? I need to strain to reach this volume!
