  • Betty founded UCLA's first graduate student community mental health program in 1967. This program created the Neuman Systems Model, initially dubbed the Total Person Approach to Patient Problems, to meet students' need for organization. 1972 Neuman-Young model. Betty edited five Neuman Systems Model editions and produced several journal papers and book chapters. The Neuman Systems Model has been used in several nursology conceptual models and theories books to develop middle-range or situation-specific theories.
  • Neuman stresses clients' views of stressors and resources and their role in setting goals and suggesting prevention treatments, highlighting the client system's importance in nursing. Many countries use the Neuman Systems Model for nursing practice and education. The method can tackle global nursing challenges in other cultures. Despite the many studies, specific Neuman Systems Model-based research is needed to evaluate the model's credibility beyond pragmatic factors.
  • Betty Neuman worked in nursing, education, health counseling, therapy, writing, speaking, and research. She received several honorary doctorates and was a member of the American Academy of Nursing. Her efforts shaped nursing.
