In order for this ecosystem to survive properly, there must be a balance between the species living in it. When there becomes too many of one species, this will eventually affect the population of another. When the sea urchin population increases as in this diagram, the kelp population will continue to suffer as there are too many of the predator, the sea urchins. While the sea otter population increases at first, this will quickly change, because the more otters there are living in an area, the more food they will need to survive. As the otters eat more and more of the urchins, there wont be enough to sustain the growing population, and they will begin to die out, just as in the situation with the kelp and the sea urchins. This will eventually cause the increase of the sea otters predator, the orca, and will continue until the ecosystem experiences a trophic cascade.
