- They're from a trading company that convinced the King of England to give them set up a colony in America. Times were so hard for the first settlers that they had to eat rats and even each other to keep them from starving.
- Let's go look for gold, silver, and waterways so that we can survive.
- 400 years ago Englishman moved away from England to work in America
- In the 1200s, Kings could do anything they wanted, but now that it's the 1600s the Englishman had representatives in Parliament who can make laws and also stand up for people's rights. And even gave advice to the King.
- Even though I'm King of England it isn't what it used to be.
- The King and Parliament didn't have much time to pay attention to the American colonist. By the mid-1700s there were 13 colonies and each colonies had its own government. The government takes care of the problems that comes up and the colonist were out on their own making their own decisions without any interference.
- In plymouth the colonist signed a compact agreeing to form a majority rule government where all men would vote on whatever issues came up. Women didn't get to vote in 1620. The colonist couldn't do anything since the King was still in control of them.
