  • Around 1825, Stephen F. Austin had built a colony and made his colony a paradise. Many people all over the US decided to move here!
  • Mexico's borders are super easy to cross. Everyone is doing it, lets secretly go to Texas!!
  • So many Americans moved to Texas that Americans President asked to buy Texas for over $1 Million Dollars! Mexico said no.
  • America asked Mexico to buy Texas once again and Mexico was infuriated. They decided to close their borders and prevented US Trade.

  • My name is Stephen F. Austin, and I am here to ask for a petition for Texas to be self-governed by us.
  • Absolutely not! I am the Mexican president Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, and I refuse this. In fact, you are arrested!
  • After hearing about the unsuccessful petition at New Mexico, people were furious. Many rebellions broke out, especially at The Alamo.
  • At the Alamo* in 1835, the Texans attacked. Santa Anna had crept up from the north and defeated all 187 Texans. Many Mexicans were defeated as well..

  • This time, the Mexicans had started a rebellion at the Battle of Goliad*, and successfully defeated them here as well. This would not be good for the Mexicans though.
  • Now that we have your president, let's make a pact.
  • Fine. You have a deal.
  • We will get the Republic of Texas and join the American Union and you will get Santa Anna.
  • Let's make a treaty called the treaty of Velasco where you will get your independence.
  • Wanting to take revenge for what happened at the Alamo, Sam Houston leads the Americans to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto and successfully captures Santa Anna.
