- Hi! I am penny the polar bear and I NEED to tell you how our Glaciers are melting and reeking havoc on us polar bears!
- Where did all the seals go?Penny, I AM HUNGRY!
- WHAT IS A POLAR BEAR DOING HERE??
- The artic is warming about twice as fast as the global average, causing the ice that polar bears depend on to melt away.
- Polar bears need to eat almost 50 seals a year to survive and they and only hunt for a limited amount of time during the year. Spring rains instead of spring snow can cause the collapse of snow dens and death of of seal pups and polar bear cubs. In some places the ice is melting much earlier. This early melt causes them to miss out on their main source of spring food – seal pups. Mother polar bears are getting skinnier and fewer cubs are surviving in the southern regions. This drop in southern Arctic polar bears is not great news for the 20,000 polar bear
- With less sea ice, polar bears are forced to stay longer on land. This is increasingly bringing them into contact with local people in Article villages and towns, leading to bears and people being injured or killed in self defense.
