Chemical Precipitation
So I start off as a shell, since I have calcium carbonate I precipitate directly from the water. It is when the water becomes supersaturated with calcium carbonate and then it ends up evaporating. The calcium carbonate precipitates then cools. This substance can accumulate and lithify into 'Limestone.'

Compaction/ Cemetation (Lithification)
There are two steps in the process of lithification, 1. Compaction, the layers of the sediment build up overtime causing the weight of the upper layers to compress the lower layers, it results in the spaces of the grains are reduced, the water is squeezed out and that the sediment particles are packed more finely. 2. Cemetation, it is when minerals in ground water like calcite and etc precipitates out of the water and causing it to fill the gaps between the sediments grains. Which means these minerals glue the sediment grains together causing it to build a hard rock like form.
