  • The decision Jimmy makes here is ultimately life or death. He is being peer pressured and is afraid of getting in trouble with his parents, but values his friends safety and his own safety.
  • There are resources available to Jimmy such as the National Helpline for Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol issues or he can reach out to his schools Teen Help Line, or he can contact his local police and ask them for help. Barriers to calling these numbers are that Jimmy does not want his friend to get in trouble or he may have not been educated on these resources.

  • Bro cmon. I guess you have a point though.
  • DON'T GET IN THAT CAR! Your parents care about your life more than they care about you drinking. I am calling my mom now and she will pick us up.
  • Jimmy made the right choice by calling his parents and asking them to pick him up and his friend. He and his friend may get in trouble for being at a party where people were drinking, but they will just be glad that you are making the safe decision. You are keeping yourself and your friend from dying in a car accident.
  • 3 facts that support Jimmy's decision:-"About 1 million arrests are made in the United States each year for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs" (CDC.gov).- "In 2020, 11,654 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers" (CDC.gov).- "A study at 7 trauma centers of 4,243 drivers who were seriously injured in crashes found that 54% of drivers tested positive for alcohol and/or drugs from September 2019 to July 2021" (CDC.gov).

  • This is what would have happened if Jimmy had given in to peer pressure. "Impaired driving affects judgment, reaction times, and awareness, which makes it especially dangerous for teen drivers whose inexperience already places them four times more likely to crash than adults" (Teendriversource.research.chop.edu). Furthermore, "Teens who drink underage or who ride with impaired drivers are more likely to drive impaired themselves" (Teendriversource.research.chop.edu).
  • Pull over now!!!
  • "Teen drivers are less likely than adults to drink and drive, but their crash risk is substantially higher when they do, even with low or moderate blood-alcohol (BAC) levels" (Teendriversource.research.chop.edu).Be like Jimmy. Never go in a car with a drunk driver.
