Odysseus is king of Greece and he just had a baby. Although his kingdom is at war, his life is good.
5. THE HERO PASSES THE FIRST THRESHOLD
Odysseus is called to help fight the war against Troy. They need his help against their army.
6. THE HERO ENCOUNTERS TESTS AND HELPERS
Odysseus does not want to fight because he just had a son. He would much rather spend time with him.
7. THE HERO REACHES THE INNERMOST CAVE
King Menelaus and Agamemnon come to Odysseus that he was bound by honor to help in the war. He does not want to go, but he does not have a choice.
8. THE HERO ENDURES THE SUPREME ORDEAL
Odysseus leaves to fight and he wins the war. He gets stranded at sea with his crew to endure many challenges.
Odysseus meets many allies and enemies on his way home. They are the lotus eaters, Polyphemus, Laestrygonians, Circe, Aeolus, Calypso, Phaenicans, Scylla, Nymphs and others.
Odysseus reaches his home, disguised. He cannot take action yet because he would lose if he tried to take on all the suitors. His anger boils inside him as he prepares to fight them.
Odysseus has to fight a large group of men all trying to win Penelope's hand. With the help of his son, he does.

After the fight, Odysseus now has to retrieve part of the treasure, Penelope. She doubts him at first but proceeds to trust him because he talks about the tree her bed is made of.
Odysseus still has to return to his throne. While he is trying to get back to his position, he meets with his father.
Odysseus returns to society a more experienced and wise man. His pride seems to be calmed. His return is similar to him being resurrected in the eyes of the people since everyone thought he was dead. He makes peace with the people.
Odysseus has now returned to his home. He has his family back and he is king again. The reward of his journey is a new sense of appreciation and gratefulness.
