Britain won the war but it cost England a lot of money so they started taxing the colonists to get money. Both Britain and France had American Indian allies fighting with them. • In 1754 Benjamin Franklin sent the Join or Die Cartoon to show the colonies that the only way to beat the British was to work together. It was first printed in the "Philadelphia Gazette". This was to represent the Albany Plan to unite the colonies. They did not accept his plan at the time.

  • The British Parliament wanted American colonists to pay for the war. They raised money by collecting taxes. Some example taxes were The Stamp Act, The Sugar Act, The Tea Act, and the Townshend Act. The taxes made the colonists angry so they protested, did boycotts, and tried to smuggle in goods. They wanted representation if they were to be taxed.

  • The Boston Massacre was started by a teenage boy insulting a British soldier. The soldier hit the boy with the end of his musket. The boy ran away but came back with more people and soon a fight broke out. The people hit the soldiers with sticks, stones, snowballs, and yelled insults at them. The soldiers fired into the crowd killing five men. The Boston Gazette reported this to be a massacre. Paul Revere, a Son of Liberty, created a picture of the massacre.

  • In 1773 the Sons of Liberty protested the Tea Act by boarding a British ship and dumping 372 crates of tea into the harbor. This caused the British Parliament to pass laws called the Coercive Acts. The laws gave Britain more control over the colonies.
  • In 1775 the British Army reached Lexington in the early morning on April 19th. A group of minutemen were waiting for them there. A British officer told them to leave but when they turned to leave someone fired a shot. We don't know which side fired the shot but both sides started firing. When finished 8 colonists were dead and 9 were wounded but only one British solider was hurt. After Lexington the soldiers marched to Concord. They search for hidden weapons. Minutemen arrived and forced the British to Boston. They were attacked all along the way to Boston with 250 killed before they reached Boston.
