After Corts dad left them to go check on his wife, Mrs. Stovall left to go find him leaving Cort and the two girls home. Then Francie got her hand stuck in catfish's lease and he dragged her to the river. Now all of the kids are stuck in the river.

After finding the tree Cort and the two girls have been trying to do everything they can to survive.

After making a daring escape jumping tree to tree trying to avoid the hogs and snakes, Cort jumps into the water to try and find his dad.
After hours of Cort being tossed around in the water he finally finds his dad.

As Cort and his dad get back to the girls a bear drops down from a nearby tree giving Cort time to save the girls. The hog and bear battled
After escaping Cort, Liza and Francie were quickly rushed to the hospital where they were treated.
After the storm everybody survived, Cort's dad decided to start building a real house but for now he would live in a temporary house. Cort asked Liza out to the school dance and everyone was happy.
