Carbon dioxide enters the plant through the pores in the leaves. Water enters through the roots and sunlight is absorbed by the chlorophyll.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP glucose oxygen carbon dioxide water energy
The plant uses these components to make sugars and oxygen. The plant uses the glucose as food and energy. The plant has no use for the oxygen so it discards it into the air.
Animals breath in the oxygen plants discard and they discard carbon dioxide. The plants then take in that carbon dioxide. Without photosynthesis and respiration life wouldn't be possible. Without plants we wouldn't be able to breath or eat and without animals plants wouldn't be able to make energy or oxygen.
carbon dioxide
The first stage of respiration takes place in the cytoplasm, this releases a small amount of energy. In this stage glucose molecules are broken down into smaller molecules.
The second stage of cellular respiration takes place in mitochondria. There the small molecules are broken down into even smaller molecules. These chemical reactions require oxygen. A great deal of energy is released in this stage.
