Mesopotamia is thought to be one of the places where early civilization developed. It is a historic region of the west Asian within the Tigris-Euphrates river system.
Politics
Mesopotamia religion was Polytheistic with followers worshipping several main gods and thousands of minor gods. Each Mesopotamia city had its own patron god or goddess and most of what we know of them has been passed down through clay tablets describing Mesopotamia religious beliefs and practices.

The wheel, plow, and writing a system which we call cuneiform are examples of their achievements. The farmer in Sumer created levees to hold back the flooding from the fields and cut canals to channel river water to the fields. The use of levees and canals is called irrigation another Sumerian invention.
Social Structure
Mesopotamia was ruled by kings. The kings only ruled a single city though rather than the entire civilization. For example, the city of Babylon was ruled by King Hammurabi. Each king and city designed the rules and system that they thought would be most beneficial for their people.
The Mesopotamian economy was based on bartering—that is, trading goods and services for other goods and services. Bartering was necessary for people in Mesopotamia to get the resources they lacked. Mesopotamians also used metals such as lead, copper, bronze, tin, gold, and silver, for currency.
The populations of this cities were divided into social classes which like societies in every civilization thought history were hierarchical.
