- There are two steps to catching a horse: putting on the halter and then clipping the lead rope onto it. To put on the halter, put your hand over the bridge of the horses’ nose and slide the halter onto the head. Then, clip the lead rope onto the metal circle. But be careful about the horses’ hooves since they can hurt you. When you lead a horse, make sure that you indicate when you stop by saying, “Whoa!”
