- In July of 2022, I brought my best friend on my family beach trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. Both of us were 16 and enjoying ourselves the whole trip.

- While we were walking along the boardwalk an older man was following us and catcalling.

- We decided to hide in a store because this had never happened to either of us and we didn't know what else to do.

- While hiding in the store we bought matching shirts as a joke to wear around.

- The attendant harassed us because of the shirt we were wearing. We tried not to play into it, but it was a very uncomfortable situation.

- Maybe you should be more aware of what you're wearing.
- Your shorts are pretty short, that's probably why that guy catcalled you.
- We wore our shirts out and this guy was being weird!

- We came back and told my mom and her boyfriend, but were disappointed in their responses.

- After that night I realized that grown men will find any reason to be weird with young girls. I also realized that even though my mom is also a girl we will never see eye to eye on gender and sexuality issues because she was raised in a different time.
