- Rome is fighting a series of wars right now The first two Punic Wars ended with Rome in full control of Sicily, the western Mediterranean and much of Spain.
- What was the end result of the Punic Wars?
- The end result was that Rome defeated Carthage and went on to dominate both the western and eastern halves of the Mediterranean.
- Rome was able to gain its empire in large part by extending some form of citizenship to many of the people it conquered
- So how did Rome winning the Punic Wars positively effect them.
- Did the military benefit from the wars?
- Military expansion drove economic development, bringing enslaved people and loot back to Rome
- Why was there so many people in Rome after the war.
- Well, large numbers of slaves were pouring into Rome, either as prisoners of war or purchased by the new wealthy class of Romans
