With her lawyers help, the girl filed a lawsuit agaisnt Henry Wade, the district attorney of Dallas County in Texas. To protect her identity in court, the girl used the name, "Jane Roe", but later her real name was revealved as Norma McCorvey The case was agrued and appealled their case before finally reaching the Supreme Court.

On January 22, 1973, the 7-2 court decision in the girls favor was finalized. She had won the case. During the period of time in which she was involved in the case she gave birth to her child and put it up for adoption. Even though she was not longer fighting because of her personal issues, she was fighting for the rights of other women.
