  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and suspicion and destructiveOne major theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is Mankind is its own worst enemy. For example, One quote is "A guy who spends his time looking up at the sky early in the morning - well there's something wrong with that kind of person." They blame Goodman for being in cahoots with the "aliens" Because he goes outside and looks at the sky early in the morning. Other evidence is "Go ahead, Steve! What kind of radio set are you working on? What do you talk to on that radio set?" Now Charlie is now accusing Steve of being an alien. He thinks that Steve is talking to aliens on the radio he is working on. The last piece of evidence is "It's Tommy! He knew he was the only one who knew!" Charlie blamed Tommy (a 14-year-old boy) for being an alien too because he was the one who said that aliens were taking over. This is a lot of evidence stating that Mankind is its own worst enemy
