- Penny finds the narrator's journal and what plans he has for Nigel so she is sending him away to protect him from knowing what was going on.
- This is the argument that occurs after Nigel is next door about how disturbed Penny is about the narrator's plans.
- Penny is planning on getting divorced because of what the narrator did and getting full custody of Nigel to protect him.

- "Step away from the woman." (200)
- The Narrator is trying to chase after Penny who has walked out of the house.
- The Narrator falls down the steps trying to catch Penny and finds her earring impaled in his hand
- Penny gets hit by a police car and is dying. The narrator is trying to get to her, but the cop that hit her is trying to get him away. The narrator is getting racially profiled by the cop that had just killed her.
