- This story takes place in Mississippi in 1933 with the Logan family being the main family and Cassie (9 years old) being the narrator. At the beginning of the story the Logan children start going to school.

- Later on in the story, the children go and sabotage the white kids bus because the bus driver drove close to the children, forcing them to jump into a muddy gully. While in school, T.J. cheats on a test but get's Stacey in trouble for it. Then then they go to the Wallace store and the boys start to fight.
- FALLING ACTION
- Two white men humiliate Cassie when she goes to the store Strawberry. Cassie see's one of her class mates in Strawberry name Lillian Jean Simms and tricks her-- then goes to beat her up.
- RESOLUTION
- Uncle Hammer (The Logan Kids uncle and Papa's brother) came for Christmas but also sold his car for the Logan's mortgage. Then, T.J. and the Simms boys went and tried to rob the store in Strawberry.
- Since the robbery went horrible, the Simms brother went and beat up T.J. A little later the Wallace's lead a lynch mob to kill T.J.
- Since the Wallace's wanted to kill T.J., Papa started a fire to distract everyone to save T.J. To put out the fire, blacks and whites come together and put out the fire.
