- Forrest Gump Jr returned from war and saw news of a political scandal. President Donald Trump coerced Ukraine and other countries to release damaging reports about presidential candidate Joe Biden and Russian interference in the 2016 US election, resulting in a political scandal. It became known as the Trump- Ukraine Scandal. This relates to the movie as Forrest Gump was present during Nixon's Watergate Scandal.

- After Forrest Gump Jr. lost his track scholarship, he had no way to pay for college so he enlisted in the military. His incredible athletic ability from his sports aided him in his training. While serving in the Gulf War of 1991, the enemy used new technology like laser guided bombs and advanced plane radar. This is made easier for the enemy to target Forrest Jr. and his allies. Like shown in the movie, newly developed bomber planes and weapons were used during the Vietnam War including unfamiliar tactics like guerrilla warfare. Both Forrest and Forrest Jr. had to deal with difficult terrain as well. For Forrest it was a rainy, densely topical climate, for his son it was the dry desert. In relation to the movie, Forrest Gump Jr.'s friend also dies due to these new and unfamiliar attacks.
- Forrest Gump Jr, like his dad, is a very fast runner so he decided to join the track team. In the scene he is running a race against a girl who is faster than him. The coaches evaluate the runners and decide he deserves a scholarship over the girl next to him, as women’s sports is considered "less important". Due to the increasing Gender Equality Movement of the 90s, the girl became upset. Like how George Wallace blocked the door of the school, trying to prevent the African American students from attending an all-white school, the coaches were blocking the door of her future opportunities by giving the track scholarship to Forrest Gump Jr. In the movie and in this scene, discrimination is shown. Eventually the girl protests this and due to social pressure for gender equality in sports, the scholarship is rightfully given to her.
