  • Lincoln Gets Shot By John Wilkes Booth.
  • David and John take a stop at Samuel Mudd's house.
  • Abraham Lincoln dies.
  • "The ball ripped through his chestnut-colored hair, cut the skin, penetrated the skull, snd because of the angle of Lincoln's head at the moment of impact, made a diagonal tunnel through Lincoln's brain." (Swanson, 41)
  • Thomas Jones helps the two hide in a pine thicket. 
  • "The farmer rose from his bed, walked to the front door, and called, 'Who's there?' to the person on the other side." (Swanson, 93)
  • They cross the Potomac River to Virginia after some misdirection.
  • "Abraham Lincoln died this morning at 22 minutes after 7 o'clock." (Swanson, 103)
  • John Booth gets shot in the neck in a burning barn.
