The Berlin Blockade was initiated by the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin. This was made to block off land travel into the city from Allied occupation zones. Stalin thought this would for sure pressure the US and force them to give up something. But the US did not respond the way the Soviet thought and the only way to get past the Berlin Blockade was to fly over it which they could do nothing about without starting a war. President Truman sent planes daily sending food and any other supplies, and after doing it for some time, the Soviet had given up and stopped the Berlin Blockade.
The US, Canada, and 10 countries of Western Europe formed NATO. NATO helped everyone involved and gave countries extra security and every country would help if just one was attacked. This also allowed the Soviet to not attack all of Europe. In NATO supplies were provided as well as troops.
