- This scene is important to the story because then the girl wouldn't act weird about her family eating. In the story it says, "When I found out my parents invited the Ministers family over for Christmas Eve, I cried." This tells me why this scene is important to the story.

- This scene is important to the story because it makes Amy embarrassed of her Chinese family and the way they were eating. In the story it says, "Dinner threw me deeper into despair. My relatives licked the ends of their chopsticks and reached across the table, dipping them into the dozen or so plates of food.". This tells me why the scene is important to the story.

- This scene is important to the story because then Amy realizes that she should not be embarrassed of her family or her Chinese menu. In the story, it says "After everyone had gone, my mother said to me, "You want to be the same as American girls on the outside." She handed me an early gift. "But inside you must always be Chinese. You must be proud you are different. Your only shame is to have shame." This tells me why this scene is important to the story.
