  • After school, Gabby had dinner with her family. She didn't say much at the dinner table and ate her food quickly. Once she finished her meal, Gabby ran upstairs to her room. Her mom noticed that something was bothering her and followed her up to her bedroom.
  • Oh, honey...I know how much that meant to you. It hurts when we try out best and still don't get what we hoped for. Not making the team doesn't mean your not good enough, it just means your still growing. I've seen how much heart you have when you play, quitting isn't what you really want, you're just upset right now.
  • I...I didn't make the soccer team. I don't want to play anymore, mom. I tried so hard and it still wasn't enough to be a part of the team.

  • Gabby, a young girl who loved soccer more than anything was getting ready for middle school tryouts. Everyday after school you would find Gabby at her backyard with her soccer ball practicing drills, foot work, and shooting.
  • Tryouts for the middle school soccer team were tomorrow, and my heart thumped with a mix of nerves and excitement. As I practiced shooting at the net, I imagined myself scoring the winning goal, something I'd dreamed about ever since I first started playing soccer. I hoped that someday, that dream would come true.

  • At the start of tryouts, Gabby was very nervous. Her passes weren't going where she wanted, and her shots weren't making it into the goal. But during drills, she began to focus and find her rhythm. Near the end of tryouts, Gabby was a lot more confident; her passes were more accurate, and her shots were a lot stronger.
  • That was a nice shot, Emma!
  • That was a cool skill you just did, Gabby!
  • As tryouts are almost over I am feeling a little bit disappointed in myself but I also feel...hopeful.
