1917 February 23rdIn 1917, the Russian Revolution started with the Woman's march in February, where they stormed the streets demanding bread and peace, being joined by soldiers, sailors, palace guards, and factory workers. They brought this to the Duma which led to the soviets meeting again for the first time since 1905, making them the center of authority. This led to the formation of the Provisional Government by the liberal members of the Duma to restore order, competing with the Petrograd soviet for control, leading to the abdication of King Nicholas II.
Bread and Peace
1917 November 6thAlthough a banished man, Lenin was granted passage into Russia by the Central Powers, in hope of using him as a distraction. He promises to the people peace for soldiers, bread for workers, and land for peasants. He was exiled once again and replaced by Trotsky, who led the Bolshevik militia (The Red Guard) into capturing most of Petrograd, which was named a Bolshevik state. During the Civil War they nationalized all the land, and Anti-Bolshevik forces were forming groups called the Whites. There was War Communism where grain was seized from peasants to feed Bolshevik troops, the Secret Police, gulags and labor camps, and eventually the the Bolsheviks and Germans signed a peace treaty in 1918 and by 1922 the Bolsheviks won the Civil war.
YEAH!!!!!!!
1922 December 30thLenin had intended to create a Marxist society out of Russia, freeing it of illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment. However, due to being communist, they were blocked off by Western nations and its industry came to a halt. To forward their society, they employed the New Economic Policy, where they had limited capitalism, allowing peasants to sell food. The government still had control of major industries, and this system brought prosperity to Russia. Lenin also passed laws allowing everyone to vote, letting everyone be equal, including women. Government had public education, free healthcare, and the church was stripped out of everything.
