Today I will be telling you about Evolution through Darwin's postulates!
EXAMPLE
VARIATION
First let's talk about Variation. Darwin believed that individuals are variable and there are many differences between them.
OVERPRODUCTION
There could be multiple of the same species but different sizes and colours. For example a species of mice. There are 3 big brown ones, 3 little gray ones and 1 medium sized black one all in the same species.
Hope no one's colour blind...
EXAMPLE
Darwin's next postulate was that variation is heritable or passed to offspring. So the kids of these mice would inherit their parents traits.
Like I got stuck with my moms brown eyes instead of my dad's blue eyes!
NATURAL SELECTION
For example, if these gray mice were to mate with each other (so a gray female and male) then their offspring will most likely be gray and small.
EXAMPLE
Darwin's next theory was that more offspring are produced, then can possibly survive.
For example, the gray mice that mated before, produced four offspring but out of those four, only one will survive.
Aw thats so sad. Sorry buddies!
THE END
Darwin's final theory was that survival is not random. Some variations make individuals more likely to survive or reproduce.
I'm coming!
OMG!
AHHHH!!!
For example, in this habitat, the small gray mice are more likely to survive because they blend in with the colour of the habitat and they are smaller making it easier to hide from predators.
Its okay we blend in!
Yay we survived!
In the end the black and brown mice died and the 3 little gray mice survived!
Turns out Darwin's theories were pretty accurate as we can see them through evolutionary changes throughout the years!
