- The Fall

- Mental Hospital
- This is a mistake, it wasn't my fault.
- Lucy
- I'm Hannah Gold.
- I'm Lucy Quintana.
- "Other details I remember distinctly: Agnes losing her balance. My arms reaching out. Her blonde hair rising around her head like a golden crown as she falls. The little yelp she made as she hit the ground" (206 Sheinmel).
- Hallucinations
- "'So that's why I'm stuck in this room?" I asked. "Because you think I'm dangerous?" "You're in this room for your own safety." I was already sick of Lightfoot's dull, monotonous voice. "And the safety of others," I added. Lightfoot didn't respond. Patient may pose as a danger to herself and others" (12 Sheinmel).
- Court
- Hannah Gold is not guilty because of lack of evidence.
- "There's a girl standing behind Dr. Lightfoot and Stephen. They took her shoes - must've had laces - but not her clothes. Not yet. She's still wearing real clothes: boot-cut blue jeans and a white, scoop neck T-shirt. She curls her light-brown toes against the linoleum floor. Her long, dark hair falls around her face like a sheet, but I can see her eyes are almost black, and a few freckles dot her cheeks like scars" (26 Sheinmel).
- The Plane Ride
- "Lucy doesn't answer. Her knee isn't jutting into my side anymore. Was I so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't feel her get up and go back to her own bed? I reach my arms out, trying to find her" (207 Sheinmel).
- LUCY!
- "I win. It doesn't feel like winning. No one throws their hands overhead and cheers, no one heaves an enormous sigh of relief. No one even smiles" (259 Sheinmel).
- She's crazy and hurt our daughter!
- I'm sorry...
- Hannah...
- "Mom's never used that tone with me before. It's the tone other parents use on their naughty toddlers. It's not the tone of someone who believes her daughter was born mature. It's not the tone of someone who thinks her daughter might not be sick" (333 Sheinmel).
- Hannah, time to take your medication.
- Hannah!
- Fine.
- I don't want to.
