Storyboard Text

  • In July 1762 Catherine came up with a plan to arrest her husband Peter the King of Russia. It was her divine right to be chosen as the next ruler.
  • Shortly after Catherine took over in 1762, Count Nikita Ivanovich Panin brought his idea of the Imperial Council. This would create a state council and divide the Senate into departments. Catherine the Great rejected the idea of others helping her make decisions giving her no checks and balances.

  • In 1764 Catherine the Great helped Poland find a King. She gave them the candidate Stanislaw Poniatowski a man who would desperately rely on her when he became King.

  • Catherine the Great forced labor on her people to fund her projects. This shows she had absolute control and political sovereignty.
  • Catherine had continuously failed at reforms. So, in 1767 she held a commission of delegates from all social classes minus surfs to find out what her people's wishes were. The debates went on for months and nothing came of them.
  • In 1773 Emelyan Pugachev started a rebellion against Cathrine the Great because he question the validity of her reign. Catherine responded with massive forces showing the might of the Russian army. Emelyan Pugachev was then captured and publicly executed in January 1775
