  • What the..? Oh! A girl? Strange...
  • H-hello.....
  • Of course! You're the new neighbor, Aren't you?
  • And you must be...the fireman.
  • How oddly you say that.
  • Of course. I'd know it with my eyes shut!
  • Does it seem like that, really?
  • What- the smell of kerosene? My wife always complains. It's like a perfume to me.
  • This is the scene in which Montag first meets Clarisse McClellan. Here. Clarisse make a firm impression in his mind by stunning him with her actions and her mere presence.
  • ...I don't really know. Do you mind if I walked with you?
  • I'm Clarisse McClellan.
  • Of course it is. Why not?
  • The reason as to why I chose the certain scene is because I found that the fact Bradbury had put this very important interaction so early in the book surprised me. Then slowly, throughout the book, especially the first part, her question starts to make sense to me.
  • Why did I listen to this girl again? I can't make sense of what she's saying!
  • May I ask you a question, Mr. Montag? Have you ever read the books you burn?
  • "I'm seventeen and I'm crazy. A thing my uncle taught me, Isn't this a nice time of night to walk? I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise.
  • I've highlighted the statements where Clarisse's statements were more than just questions but acted as a form of foreshadowing.
  • HA! That's against the law! No, no it's fine work. Burn 'em to ashes, then burn the ashes, That's our official slogan.
  • Oh. Well, is it true that long ago firemen put fires out instead of going to start them?
  •
  • Clarisse. Guy Montag. Come along.
  • On page 66-68, Montag and his wife finally read some book that Montag has been hiding in the ventilator, contrary to what Montag had stated in the beginning of the book.
  • What are you doing out so late wandering around? How old are you?
  • Once again,
